Golden jackal

Key identification features

A scruffy yellowish-brown jackal with slightly shaggy hair and a black tail tip. HB 85-100 cm. Wt 10-15 kg.

Habitat and social behaviour

Found in pairs or in small family groups. In Tanzania associated with savannas and open bushland in the north of the country.

Similar species

Its uniform colour distinguishes it from the Black backed jackal. The Side-striped jackal has a white tipped tail.
