Meet the cheetahs
Amarula
Amarula, born in April 1998, has proven to be a very successful mother. Her mother was a cheetah called Talisker, who was very well known to all of us on the cheetah project. Amarula was part of a litter of 4 cheetah cubs, but she was the only survivor into adulthood. She has been known by us since she was a tiny cub just out of the den. She was initially unsuccessful at rearing cubs, however at 4 years old she produced a wonderful litter of three males and one female, born in June 2002, named Maurus (after the Tanzania Carnivore Project manager), Jerome, Alex (after the Tanzania Mammal Atlas Project manager) and Kahlua. They separated from Amarula at the end of 2003, and are now independent. Since then she has raised 2 more litters to independence. Muscat was born in the middle of 2004, and in 2008 she was spotted with 2 cubs of her own. Amarula's most recent litter was born in September 2006 and became independent in 2008.
Amarula was last seen in March 2008.
