Meet the cheetahs

Eleanor

Eleanor

Eleanor was born in late 2004, and was the only cub out of her litter to survive to independence. Eleanor is a legend of the Ndutu area, as in January 2008 she introduced us to her very first litter of 6 cubs. As they were born in the middle of high season, they soon became very habituated and were commonly seen under tourist cars to get out of the midday heat. Eleanor managed to raise 5 of the 6 cubs to independence, an incredible achievement for a first time mother! The cubs are all on their own now and have been named after famous jazz and blues singers.  The two brothers are now known as Howling and Wolff and the three female cubs have been named Aretha, Etta and Nina.  Eleanor was seen in January 2009 in a consort pair with the coffee boys, Espresso, Mocha and Latte, and in April she was seen lactating. Sure enough in August 2009 she was seen with her second litter, two four month old male cubs! The cubs were last seen in February 2010, fingers crossed she continues to be as successful as she was with her first litter.

Eleanor was last seen in February 2010.
